In this Privacy Policy we inform you about the nature, scope and purposes of the collection and use of personal data when you visit the online platform Reconstructive Dentistry Step by step ( www.reconstructive-dentistry.com or www.rekonstruktive-zahnmedizin.com; hereinafter the “Website”) and when you use the online platform Reconstructive Dentistry Step by step (hereinafter the “Platform”). Your data will be processed in accordance with the Information and Data Protection Act of the Canton of Zurich (IDG) and – where applicable – the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).


1. Processing of personal data

We hereby pursue the legitimate interests of delivering the contents of the Website correctly, increasing data protection and data security to ensure a level of protection for the personal data that is commensurate with the risk, ensuring network and information security, and optimizing the Website and protecting it from attacks, disruptions and damage.

1.2. Opening a user account

When you create a user account, you provide us with personal data, including your first and last name, your postal address, your e-mail address, a password and your payment information (see also Section 2.1 regarding payment information). This information is mandatory for the subscription and is collected for the purposes of user administration, invoicing, to contact you in cases directly linked to the provision of the Platform (e.g. in the event of future price changes), and to provide you with access to your user account (e.g. in the event of loss of the password).

The data processing is based on your consent, the fulfilment of the contract for the use of the Platform, and/or the protection of our legitimate interests. We hereby pursue the legitimate interests of user administration, invoicing, to contact you in cases directly linked to the contractual relationship, and protecting the Platform from unauthorized or unlawful access or access in breach of contract.

If you request to delete your account, your personal data will be deleted, unless such data is still required to protect our legitimate interests (e.g. in case of outstanding payments or in case the Platform has been used in an unauthorized or unlawful way or in breach of the contract) or such data is processed based on another legal basis.

1.3. Newsletter

If you have given your consent, we will use your e-mail address to provide you with our newsletter, to announce updates to the Platform, and to inform you about further education events or other news. You can unsubscribe from these e-mails at any time by changing your settings in your user account.

1.4. Students, staff and alumni of the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry: application for free access

Students of the Center for Dental Medicine (UZH), staff and alumni of the Clinic of Reconstructive Dentistry (UZH) may be granted free access to the Platform for a limited period of time under certain conditions. There is no legal entitlement to such access.

If you submit an application for free access for students in your user account or in the registration process, you give your consent that we may check your enrollment at the Center for Dental Medicine by using the enrollment lists.

If you submit an application for free access for employees and alumni in your user account or in the registration process, you give your consent that we may check your employment at the Center for Dental Medicine by using the employees lists.

1.5. Use of cookies

Cookies are used when using the Website. The purpose of cookies is to personalize the Website for the user and to facilitate the use of the Website. Cookies are small text files that the Website transmits to the Internet browser on the user's device and that are stored there for later retrieval, so that the user is recognized the next time he or she visits the Website. 2. Disclosure of data to third parties

2.1. Stripe/payment data

Payments for use of the Website are processed by Stripe, Inc. 510 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA and its affiliated companies (hereinafter "Stripe"). Stripe uses and processes your payment information in accordance with Stripe's privacy policy on our behalf. Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd, 1 Grand Canal Street Lower, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland is responsible for the collection and processing of personal data of persons resident in Switzerland and the European Economic Area. Stripe may transfer personal data to the USA. The data is transferred to the USA under the Swiss-US Privacy Shield Framework or the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework. When you make payments to us via Stripe, we receive limited information about your payment card (last four digits of the card number, expiry date and the country where the card was issued).

This data processing is necessary to process your payment and is based on the fulfilment of the contract for the use of the Platform and/or the protection of our legitimate interests. We hereby pursue the legitimate interests of collecting the user payments and protecting the Platform from unauthorized or unlawful access or access in breach of contract.

2.2. SWITCHcast

The Platform provides access to several video content. This video content is stored in Switzerland by the SWITCHcast service of the SWITCH Foundation. When you access a web page that contain video content, your browser establishes a connection with SWITCH's servers in the background. SWITCH is obliged to process any personal data resulting from such connection exclusively within the framework of providing the video content. Any further processing or disclosure to third parties by SWITCH is excluded.

The data processing is based on the fulfilment of the contract for the use of the Platform.

2.3. Google Analytics

If you have given your consent, Google Analytics is used on the Website. Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited (Google). Google Analytics is used in the "Universal Analytics" mode. This allows data, sessions and interactions across multiple devices to be assigned to a pseudonymous User ID, allowing the activities of a user to be analyzed across devices.

We use Google Analytics to analyze the use of the Website. This data is used to improve the Website. The data processing is based on your consent.

Google Analytics uses cookies (see also Section 1.5). The information generated by the cookie about your use of this Website may be transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Personal data is transferred to the USA under the Swiss-US Privacy Shield Framework or the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework. The EU Commission has rendered an adequacy decision. The IP address transmitted by your browser in the context of Google Analytics is not combined with other data from Google. The personal data collected by Google Analytics is automatically deleted after 14 months. Personal data is automatically deleted once a month after the retention period has lapsed.

You may prevent Google from collecting and using your personal data by downloading and installing the browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.%20 . ou may also prevent such data processing through the use of opt-out cookies. Data may be disclosed to third parties due to legal obligations. In particular, as a public institution we are legally subject to the freedom of information principle (“Öffentlichkeitsprinzip”) and the protection of personal data may therefore be limited.

In order to protect your personal data, we have taken technical and organizational measures in accordance with legal requirements and adapt them continuously to the environment. Our employees who are involved in the processing of personal data are subject to an obligation of secrecy and, where applicable, to official secrecy. All your personal data is stored exclusively on servers in Switzerland, with the exception of data in the context of Stripe (see Section 2.1) and Google Analytics (see Section 2.3). All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS.

6. Amendment of the Privacy Policy
